Beth Shibata’s images explore shape and boundaries—where light meets shadow, where words meet images, where what we see questions what we know. Her photographs integrate her wide-ranging interests and her curiosity about the world. Influenced by Japanese culture and the zen aesthetics of wabi sabi and shibumi, she finds beauty in simplicity, imperfection, and restraint and tries to ferret out the grace, beauty and unexpected humor life presents.
